The Acer Gemstone Blue series has one of the coolest designs we have seen in our office in quite a long time. The attention to detail is astounding, especially with the screen cover where you realize the color isn't a solid blue, but instead a smooth transition to a lighter color towards centered Acer logo. Even the screen hinges weren't overlooked, with the chrome accents and inner blue LED lighting when plugged in. While our review model lacked HDMI out and a Blu-ray drive, it still handled downloaded HD content (720P) and DVD movies just fine. The built-in subwoofer performed well, but covered up the anemic audio that the main drivers put out. For the going price of $899 this notebook configuration is a lukewarm deal, but if you find it on sale for $699 (which we have seen) it turns into a great deal for all that you get.

Maybe it's because I'd never seen one on a laptop, but there's something seductive about a 16-inch widescreen—the way movies, especially high-definition ones, look when stretched out in the same fashion as in a movie theater. The Acer Aspire 6920G-6071 ($980 street) sits between a conventional 15.4-inch and a 17-inch media center laptop.
Not only is the Acer Aspire 6920G-6071 the first to incorporate a 16-inch widescreen, it's also the first to bundle a Blu-ray drive for under $1,000.

Acer's new range of Gemstone computers is a little shinier than the previous models, and there's one major difference in screen size. While most notebooks come are either 15in or 17in widescreen models, the new Acers use 16in and 18in screens instead. The company says this is going to become more common but for now they're the first such products we've seen. The 6920, available through Comet, has a 16in screen and an Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 processor, which runs at 2GHz, along with a generous 3GB of memory.

The Aspire 6920G really impressed us. It looks great, sounds great and has a good screen. It also offers up muscular performance from both the processor and graphics chip. If you're on the market for an attractively priced desktop replacement that can take care of your entertainment needs, it's definitely worth serious consideration.

Acer Aspire 6920G, as representative of new Gemstone Blue series, deserves all our praises. Attractive design and good performances are very nice combination. Because of its dimensions it is not likely that this model will be considered by users searching for mobility. On the other side users who seek notebook that can take role of home multimedia center will be more than satisfied with Acer Aspire 6920G.

Acer is in the process of trying to change its perceived brand value. No longer does it want to be seen as simply offering bargain-priced laptops, but also more high-end brands. The easiest way to achieve this aim is to release something a little different and the Acer Aspire 6920G-603G25Bn (£900 inc. VAT) is certainly that.

NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS: Een middelklasse GPU die ongeveer 10% sneller is dan de GeForce 8600M GT met dezelfde kloksnelheid. Daardoor beschikt de grafische kaart niet over voldoende kracht om zeer hoge details met DirectX 10 effecten of veeleisende games zoals Crysis te draaien.
Deze middenklasse grafische kaarten kunnen alle huidige spellen vloeiend spelen. Veeleisende spellen kunnen alleen met gemiddelde detail instellingen gespeeld worden.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Dit is de Core Duo, de opvolger van de Core Solo met een langere pipeline en 5-20% meer snelheid zonder een hoger stroomverbruik. Als een aanvulling op het Core Duo ontwerp zit er een vierde decoder op, een versterkte SSE-unit en een extra reken-, logische unit (ALU).
De Core 2 Duo voor laptops is identiek aan de desktop Core 2 Duo processors maar de notebook-processors werken met een lagere spanning en een lagere Frontside bus klok. De prestatie van gelijk-geklokte notebooks is 20-25% lager dan Desktop PCs vanwege de lagere Frontside bus klok en de langzamere harde schijf.
